Social Media is full of updates on #MeAt20, mostly images.

It is trending globally, says The Indian Express when I googled for #MeAt20

It is easy to pick an old pic (a glamorous version of yourself, being younger) and post on social media. A different story to write a blog post?

I got to really search for some snaps from that era :) Hence I thought how about some prose? Poetry is beyond me. You may say, ‘prose is also beyond me too’? Bahut khamand hai apni writing skills par? You can hold on to your opinion :)

I am taking a ‘difficult’ route to go back, reflect on how life was at 20. I am curious about what emotions will come up. Hope there will be some moments to cherish, some disappointments, some missed opportunities.

We are constantly making choices, consciously or not. The life we live today is a manifestation of the choices we have made earlier.

What is that once choice or decision, you made in your 20-ish that make you proud today?

At least one. More the merrier.

#MeAt20-ish: I dumped my journey to become an engineer, opted for commerce (BCom), almost missed the admission deadlines.

  • I rejected my first job offer, in Indian Railways. I had gone through the process to get practice for competitive exams and got the offer. As a TTE, a job #MSDhoni took up much later :)) And all similarities end there, stating the obvious.
  • I had left the second job too, a big break, in State Bank. Not SBI :) But SBH, Hyderabad. An organization which boasted of Md Azharuddin as the employee, and cricket captain at the bank. Many of us in BCom had appeared for the bank test. I got selected, joined considering it was State Bank! Three months later, when the manager refused to sanction leave of absence for my university exams, I decided to quit. Coming from a lower middle class, that was a big decision.
  • Then I decided to complete B Com and then explore B School options.

All credit to parents who supported to take these bold decisions.

In between,

  • Played for the college soccer team.
  • Cleared ICWAI group 2, first attempt. Then I recognized cost accountancy was not for me.
  • Supported a rebel candidate in college elections, almost got into some trouble
  • Got a two-wheeler

Staying on with #MeAt20ish, the biggest and best thing to happen to me was… It was two years later, I met my Guru. The turning point in my life.

The early 20s is the best period in our lives. The choices we make then carries us throughout the rest of our lives.
