Is it a good idea?

Side Hustle means ‘a job or occupation that brings in extra money beyond one’s regular job and main source of income.’ (google)

That is outright illegal as per the HR policies of most companies. A lot of learner (aspiring) coaches on their ICF credentialing journey can not practice for remuneration for the same reason. Even though it directly helps the leaders to lead better. We always encourage them to take up with HR and find a solution that serves all.

To actively pursue a ‘side hustle’ also means we are not fully committed to our work. The ‘regular job’ is not just a 10–5 work. It gives us our bread & butter (often ‘jam’ too). It is also our primary identity. We can not be #entrepreneurial at work when we are not fully committed to it. A lot of creative ideas will come from our networking, reading, and other activities outside the working hours.

Check out the most successful corporate leaders. They were not distracted by any side-hustle.

‘Take time to look around, it is too short a day to be selfish’

Working with corporate leaders & business owners for their leadership coaching, they don’t like their team members being distracted in any way. While the leaders are expected to move from IQ to EQ and be a coach at work, the team members are expected to give their 100%.

Let us not confuse this with hobbies. Have a good hobby. That is very helpful, must have. Don’t go beyond a hobby, let us not monetize everything.
